GOLF PERSAHABATAN - 2012 Report
The golf game between the retired Armed Forces officers and the serving Armed Forces officers (organized by RAFOC and MAFGA) was successfully held on Saturday, 25 February 2012 at the Bangi Golf Resort, Bandar Baru Bangi. Tee-off was at 1400 hours.
120 golfers, 60 (30 pairs) from each side participated with Jen Tan Sri Dato' Sri Zulkifeli bin Mohd Zin, Panglima Angkatan Tentera, leading the serving Armed Forces officers' side and Jen Tan Sri Dato' Seri Abd Rahman bin Abd Hamid, (Bersara), RAFOC Deputy President, leading the retired Armed Forces officers' side.
Amongst the serving officers who played were Lt Jen Dato' Raja Mohd Affandi bin Raja Mohd Noor, Chief of Staff, Armed Forces HQ, Laksdya Dato' Mohd Nordin bin Ali, the Deputy Chief of Navy, Mej Jen Dato' Che Akmar bin Mohd Nor, Asst Chief of Staff (Plans & Development), Armed Forces HQ and Brig Jen Dato' Ismet Nayan bin Ismail, Chairman of MAFGA backed by a couple of young low handicap Lt Kol golfers.
Amongst the retired Armed Forces officers who played were Jen Tan Sri Mohd Zahidi bin Hj Zainuddin, (Bersara), Lt Jen Tan Sri Mohd Yunus bin Mohd Tasi, TUDM, (Bersara), Jen Tan Sri Ahmad Saruji bin Che Ros, TUDM, (Bersara), Jen Tan Sri Nik Ismail bin Nik Mohamed, TUDM, (Bersara), Laksma Dato' Guna Sakeran, (Bersara) and a couple of good but not so young, not so low handicap golfers.
The aim of the golf game was to enhance the cordial relationship and esprit-de-corps between the retired Armed Forces officers and the serving Armed Forces officers. At the same time to allow the retired Armed Forces officers to meet, some for the first time, some of the serving Armed Forces officers and vice versa. Although it was supposed to be a friendly game, the instruction for the retired Armed Forces officers' team was "play to win!"
This year the game was organized by RAFOC under the able chairmanship of Mej Jen Datuk Abd Kadir bin Nordin, (Bersara). Unfortunately, Datuk Abd Kadir had to leave for another venue, Barcelona, Spain the day before the game. Lt Kol Ramli bin Kinta, (Bersara), the Honorary Secretary for RAFOC Golf Sub-Committee, took over the leadership to organize the game on the actual day. Lt Kol Ramli bin Kinta, (Bersara)
The format of the play was by fixed pair, same flight on stableford score, both scores to count. The top 20 scores out of the 30 pairs were to count towards determining the winning side. Our thanks to YBhg. Jen Tan Sri Dato' Sri Zulkifeli bin Mohd Zin, Panglima Angkatan Tentera, for donating the Challenge Trophy, the "Piala Jen Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin".
Each side donated RM3,000.00 for the prizes to be given to the top 10 pairs from each side (ie. 50% of the pairs who contributed their scores for the Challenge Trophy). Above that, our RAFOC Committee Members, led by our President have also contributed, to sponsor the individual prizes for the top 10 individual scores. The overall individual winner was also awarded a Challenge Trophy, "Piala RAFOC", donated by RAFOC.
The weather was near perfect, no rain (with thanks to our weather consultant), and there was enough day-light for the game to end at about 1900 hours. The results were follows:
- Individual Trophy: "Piala RAFOC"
Winner - Lt Kol Abdullah Khir bin Saidi, (Bersara) (8) - 38 Points (OCB)

This game will be held annually and in his thank you speech, Jen Tan Sri Zulkifeli said that MAFGA would organize the next game in 2013. MAFGA, however, may want to change the format of the game and to limit the age of their golfers.
We would like to thank Brig Jen Dato' Ismet Nayan bin Ismail, the Chairman of MAFGA for facilitating the game and to Lt Kol Andenan, MAFGA Honorary Secretary who was with us in arranging the details of the game - the most difficult task was to arrange who plays with whom and against whom. Our thanks to members of our RAFOC Golf Sub-Committee and our RAFOC Secretariat for giving their time and effort to make this game a real success.
Our special thanks to YBhg. Jen Tan Sri Mohd Ghazali bin Dato' Mohd Seth, (Bersara), our RAFOC President for being present during the dinner and prize giving. So were a few other members of RAFOC who came just to be with the golfers that night including Lt Jen Dato' Seri Mohd Daud bin Abu Bakar (Bersara), Brig Jen Dato' Mohd Kassim bin Ismail, (Bersara) and Lt Dato' Wira Abd Halim bin Abd Karim, (Bersara).
This game would not have been that successful if not for the support and contributions from members of RAFOC. We could only charge the standard RM150.00 per golfer (enough to pay the golf package) less we would not get the numbers if the charge was more. Our thanks to YB. Mej Dato' Seri Zulhasnan bin Rafique, TUDM, (Bersara) for sponsoring the dinner, Lt Dato' Wira Abd Halim bin Abd Karim, (Bersara) for sponsoring the lunch, Mej Anuar bin Adam, (Bersara) for sponsoring the entertainment, Lt Kol Dato' Shafii bin Rosad, (Bersara) for sponsoring the photographing and video taking, our Committee Members led by our President for sponsoring the individual prizes and Kol Dato' Mohamad bin Munip (Bersara) and Kapt Dato' Azri bin Murad, TUDM, (Bersara) for sponsoring the Novelty Prizes and the Lucky Draw. Last but not least, our thanks to the management and staff of Bangi Golf Resort for facilitating our golf game at this resort and for a job well done.
Our next game will be our "Retired Armed Forces Officers Annual Golf - 2012" to be held in July 2012 on a date and at a venue to be notified. Until then, keep golfing!
